Nicki Minaj has just escaped legal issues when Wayne County prosecutors in Michigan denied the Detroit Police Department's request for an arrest warrant. The rap legend was accused of assaulting her purported former manager, Brandon Garrett, on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour in April of last year, which prompted the request.
The Allegations: What Happened?
Minaj was charged with assault, violence, and purposeful cause of emotional distress in a recent civil complaint brought by Garrett. According to him, the incident happened after a performance at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena. The lawsuit claims that Minaj lost her temper when Garrett assigned someone else to pick up her prescription.
In his filing, Garrett recounted Minaj’s alleged outburst:"Are you f###### crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f###### mind and if my husband were here, he would knock out your f###### teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just f##### up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it."
Garrett also claimed that Minaj told him to go after hitting him on the side of his head. He says he was so scared that he spent hours locking himself in a bathroom.
Prosecutors Decline Arrest Warrant
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office evaluated the evidence and determined that it was not strong enough to support Minaj's arrest. https://www.tmz.com/2025/01/06/nicki-minaj-warrant-request-denied-wayne-county-michigan/
The case hasn't been fully closed, though. The Detroit Police have been asked by the prosecutors to look into the case further.
Nicki Minaj’s Response
Judd Burstein, Minaj's lawyer, denied the accusations, saying that at the time of the statement, neither Minaj nor her legal team had seen the lawsuit. https://www.the-independent.com/arts-entertainment/music/news/nicki-minaj-lawsuit-tour-manager-assault-b2673646.html
"At this time, no complaint has been served upon [Nicki Minaj] and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations. However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in [Nicki Minaj’s] favor," Burstein said.
What’s Next?
Although Minaj has not yet been arrested, further information may come from the continuing inquiry. The star's complicated and attention-grabbing career, where legal issues and music industry domination frequently collide, is further complicated by this most recent dispute.
