Three days prior to the first scheduled date of their US tour, Lauryn Hill and The Fugees have discreetly canceled their gigs.
Refund notices were sent out to fans without providing an explanation, and the August and September tour dates were taken down from Ticketmaster.
"Your event has been canceled," was the message that fans received from promoter LiveNation. Fans posted screenshots of the statement. Your account will shortly receive a refund.
Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean, two of Hill's colleagues from The Fugees, were scheduled to perform at the performances, which were billed as The Miseducation anniversary tour. The performance was scheduled to feature tracks from The Fugees' critically acclaimed 1996 album "The Score" as well as Hill's 1998 Grammy-winning solo debut, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." Originally, the tour's opening performance was slated to be on Friday, August 9, in Tampa. After 15 years apart, The Fugees came back together in 2021, however, they only performed once before calling off the tour due to "pandemic-related difficulties."
In 2023, they embarked on another tour, but this time, Hill claimed that the reason for the cancellation was her experiencing "severe vocal strain."
She added in a statement last year, "I survived each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be harmful to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time." "I have to take some time off to avoid any long-term harm to my body and voice."
